Introduction
I spent a little more than a year in Colombia doing international accompaniment work. People who are under threat in a particular country will call on people from outside that country to accompany them. In Colombia we accompanied both threatened individuals and whole communities with the aim of reducing the violence. The idea of accompaniment is based on the presumption that the risk to their person is reduced by the presence of an international which raises the political costs of any violent action against them. It was an honor to be able to participate in this kind of work and I'm glad to have done it.
